Criticize Effectively
Source: Communication Briefings ideas that work

Be polite but firm to criticize effectively. Hereís how:

  • Wait until youríre calm. Donít criticize others when youríre angry. You risk making the criticism personal.
  • Avoid "you." Criticize the behavior and not the person. Example: "When this happens, I feel frustrated," not "When you do this, you make me angry."
  • Ask for a solution. Example: How do you think we should solve this?" This makes the person think and puts the responsibility on him or her.
  • Leave after youíve made your point. This strengthens your message. Remaining to talk about other things will dilute it.
